Chandra

Also written the Moon · Soma

Chandra is the Moon — the significator of the mind (manas), the emotions, and the inner world. In Jyotish it is treated as nearly co-equal with the Lagna: many readings are made from the moon sign as if it were the first house, because how we feel a life is as telling as how we meet it.

It governs the mother, the home, water and fluids, comfort and instinct, and the public’s mood. The moon’s position by nakshatra is the anchor of the whole dasha system, and its waxing and waning give us Purnima and Amavasya.

Fast-moving — about two and a quarter days per sign — it rules the nakshatra Rohini.
