Chandrabala

Also written Moon strength · Chandra Bala

Chandrabala (bala = strength) asks a simple question: where is today's Moon, counted from your birth Moon? The Moon is the mind, so its position relative to your own Moon colours how a day feels.

Transits through the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th and 11th signs from the birth Moon are traditionally read as supportive; the rest are weaker, and the 8th — Chandrashtama — is the one to treat with care. The Moon changes sign about every two and a quarter days, so Chandrabala shifts several times a week.

It is usually read together with Tarabala, the same idea counted by nakshatra instead of sign, and the two are the backbone of choosing a personally good day (muhurta).
